What a verbena (street party) night looks like

Opening speech, live act, band and dancing into the small hours

A village verbena strings together very different things on the same stage and with the same equipment: a few words from the mayor or the head of the brotherhood, the local group's performance, the dance band and, finally, the DJ. Everything has to be set up in the afternoon and keep going until the last song.

Before: the stage

Most verbenas are set up in a square, on fairgrounds or on an open municipal plot. The first thing to arrive is the stage or platform; if there's a risk of rain or afternoon sun, a covered stage. Once the stage is in place, the sound goes up, the lighting is hung from the truss and the audience is kept back with crowd barriers.

The speeches

Almost every verbena has an official moment: an award, the opening speech (pregón), the presentation of the fiesta queen or a few words from the brotherhood. With crowd noise, children and the bar in full swing, the voice is only intelligible with a decent microphone and a system tuned for speech. We set up a fixed microphone channel and a spare wireless one.

The performance

It varies a lot depending on what the town council has booked: a choir, a marching band, a covers band or a dance orchestra. Each act brings its rider, and that's where we decide how many channels, how many monitors and whether backline is needed. Dance bands often bring part of their own gear; it's worth asking so nothing is duplicated.

The dancing

After the performance comes the DJ or the dance set. What matters here is that the system reaches the far end of the square without blasting the people at the front, and that there are enough subwoofers for it to be felt. The clock matters too: the finishing time is set by the council permit.

For organisations

Booking sound as a town council, brotherhood or association

The set-up is half the job. The other half is making sure the booking fits your procedures.

Detailed, itemised quote

Stage, sound, lighting, technician and transport itemised separately, so it can be approved or trimmed line by line.

Invoice in the organisation's name

With the tax details of the town council, brotherhood or association, and VAT itemised.

Set-up documentation

We can provide the technical and insurance documentation usually required to use a public street or square.

Several days in a row

For three- or four-day fiestas, the set-up stays in place and is covered each night, which works out better than setting up and taking down every day.

Coordination with the Local Police

Street closure times, truck access and the music finishing time are agreed in advance with the organiser.

Someone in charge during the fiesta

If there are live acts, it's best to have a sound technician on site all night; if it's just dancing, the system can be left configured.

What to plan for

Power, noise and weather

Village power isn't always enough. Many squares have a street-lighting panel that can't handle a stage with sound and lights. Available power has to be checked and, if it falls short, a generator planned: how many kW you need.

Neighbours and timing. The council permit sets the finishing time. We stick to it, and plan the night so the last song ends before it, not after. On limits and levels: noise regulations for events.

Wind and summer storms. Speaker towers and outdoor structures are ballasted or anchored. If the forecast says strong wind, anything up high comes down: that's not up for negotiation.

Dust and heat. On albero (compacted sand) grounds, the equipment is protected and raised off the ground. In August, electronics in the sun overheat, so they're protected just as they would be from rain.

If your fiesta includes a flamenco performance, also see sound for flamenco; if it's a romería (pilgrimage festival) or a May Cross, this is the set-up you'll usually need; and if the town council is also holding an event with dignitaries, institutional events.

How many nights and which acts?

Send us the fiesta programme and we'll prepare an itemised quote, ready to submit.

Frequently asked questions

Questions from town councils and brotherhoods

Can you set up in a square with no power supply nearby?

Yes, with a generator sized for the full set-up. It's standard on fairgrounds and open plots. It's included in the quote from the outset, because it changes the final figure considerably.

What do you need to know to quote for patron saint fiestas?

The number of nights, which acts are booked and what kind, the expected audience size, where it's being set up and whether there's power. That's enough for a realistic quote; the bands' riders fine-tune it.

Do you include the stage or just the sound?

We can set up the whole package: stage, sound, lighting and crowd barriers. It works out better and faster than coordinating three different suppliers, because everything arrives on the same truck and is set up by the same crew.

Do you work in towns far from the city?

Yes, throughout the province: Sierra Sur, Vega, Campiña and Aljarafe. You can see the towns under service areas.

The band brings its own equipment. Why do we need you?

Many bands bring a PA and a technician, but they don't cover the rest of the night: the opening speech, the awards, the local group or the DJ afterwards. It's worth agreeing in writing what each party provides, so you don't pay twice or end up without sound at two in the morning.

How does a town council book you?

We issue an itemised quote and an invoice in the town council's name, and provide whatever company documentation is requested for the procurement file.
