Bajo Guadalquivir
Sound systems in Los Palacios y Villafranca
A flat, farming town with straight streets, between the countryside and the marshes. There is plenty of room to set up, and power almost always has to be brought in.

How we set up here
Flat ground, straight streets and plenty of space
The town was formed by the merging of two settlements and grew on flat ground, with a wide, regular street layout, surrounded by irrigated farmland and agricultural warehouses.
For a set-up, the flat terrain is an obvious advantage: there are no hills, the streets leave room to manoeuvre and at most venues the vehicle can drive right up to where we are working. There are also large spaces (sports courts, open grounds, the fairground) that can take big set-ups without the constraints of a cramped old town.
Countryside, warehouses and dirt tracks
Much of the municipality is farmland, with a strong market-gardening tradition. Many private and company events are held at estates, cortijos (country farmhouses) and agricultural warehouses. There, access needs checking: dirt tracks hold up well when dry but get tricky after rain, and a van loaded with a stage is not a car. It is also worth knowing whether the ground where the structure goes is firm and level; on albero (compacted sand) or loose soil, load-spreading bases are needed.
Power and dust
Out in the open countryside the power supply is rarely where it is needed and almost never provides enough capacity, so a generator is the rule rather than the exception. And in summer there is the dust: connections are protected, the control position is covered when not in use and the equipment is checked when it is packed away. It is a detail that extends the life of the gear and prevents failures mid-event.

What gets celebrated
Fair, street events and countryside celebrations
As in most towns across the countryside and marshes, the calendar revolves around the town festivities and family celebrations.
The fair and the patron saint festivities account for most of the outdoor work: casetas (fair marquees), a stage at the fairground, a sound system sized to the audience and lighting. These set-ups are prepared well in advance and require coordination with the town council over times, power and access. In May there are also Cruces de Mayo (May Crosses) and brotherhood events, and in summer, open-air evening festivities (veladas).
The rest of the year is dominated by weddings and First Communion parties in banqueting halls and estates in the area, private parties at cortijos (country farmhouses) and celebrations for agricultural companies and cooperatives, which are usually held in warehouses and need sound and projection.

Frequently asked questions
Frequently asked questions in Los Palacios
Can you set up a stage at the fairground?
Yes. We work with modular stages in various sizes, covered or uncovered, with the structure needed to fly sound and lighting. We need to know the area, the ground surface and the electrical power available.
The event is at a cortijo reached by a dirt track. Can you get there?
Yes, with advance notice. If the track is dry there is usually no problem; if it has rained, we need to assess it, because a loaded vehicle gets stuck easily. In those cases we unload at a firm spot and bring the equipment in from there.
How many kW of generator do we need?
It depends on the equipment list. An average sound and lighting set-up does not draw the same power as one with moving heads and a screen. We calculate it from the planned equipment and add a safety margin.
Do you charge more for working in the early hours?
Take-down after the event is included, whatever the time. What we price separately is when the set-up requires extra working days or when the equipment has to stay on site for several days.
