What a karaoke needs
Three pieces and one adjustment
Almost every bad karaoke we have seen fails for the same reason: weak microphones that feed back and a screen only the front row can see.
A karaoke set-up comes down to three things: a sound system with clear vocals and music with body, two microphones — always two, because the fun is in singing duets — and a screen that can be seen from where people sing. On top of that comes the tuning, which is what separates a fun karaoke from an afternoon of squealing feedback.
The adjustment that matters
- Microphones behind the speakers, never in front: it is the number one cause of feedback.
- A touch of reverb on the vocals. It helps a lot: it hides tuning slips and encourages people to have a go.
- Vocals above the music. If the backing track drowns out the singer, nobody comes back for more.
- A moderate overall level. At full volume people shout, and feedback is only a matter of time.
Where it is popular
Birthdays and family celebrations, company parties and Christmas dinners, hen and stag dos, graduations, camps and community group activities, and as an add-on for the end of the night at weddings — it works really well there after the dancing, when only the smaller group is left.

How the lyrics are displayed and where the music comes from
The screen
Indoors in low light, a projector with a screen gives you a big picture at low cost. With ambient light or outdoors in daytime, the projector image washes out and you need a TV or monitor or, for large set-ups, an LED screen, which is perfectly visible even in sunshine. Rule of thumb: the screen has to be visible from where people sing, not from where the audience sits.
The song list
You choose the music, using whichever service or app you prefer on a laptop or tablet. What we provide is getting it into the system at proper quality: a dedicated input, the right level and no reliance on the laptop's speaker. Bear in mind that playing music publicly at an event may have copyright implications; we summarise them in SGAE and copyright at events.
Microphones: wireless is better
At a karaoke people move around, pass the microphone and trip over cables. Two wireless microphones with fresh batteries solve that and prevent half the mishaps. For a large group, four let everyone join the chorus without squabbles.

Karaoke FAQs
Are the songs included?
You provide the music from a laptop, tablet or phone using whichever service you use. We provide the equipment, the audio input and the tuning so it sounds great.
How many microphones are included?
Two as standard, because singing duets is half the fun. More can be added for a large group or if you want backing vocals.
Why do microphones squeal at karaoke parties?
Because they are usually in front of the speakers or the gain is too high. It is fixed with placement and EQ: we explain it in how to avoid feedback.
Does it work in a garden?
Yes, by stepping up the sound system and solving the screen, which is the tricky part outdoors: in daylight a projector will not do, and you need a TV or LED screen.
Can you set it up and let us run it ourselves?
Yes. The set-up is designed for exactly that: we leave it tuned, with four controls explained. If you would rather not worry about anything, you can book a technician.
