What a basic sound system is
Simple sound, well chosen and easy to use
A basic system is not a poor system: it is the minimum that handles a small event properly, with no spare cables or buttons nobody is going to touch.
A basic kit is powered speakers, a small mixer, one or two microphones and the cabling. That covers the vast majority of corporate meetings, conferences, civil ceremonies, presentations, classes, acoustic performances, First Communion parties and family celebrations. It sets up in minutes, fits in a car and needs no sound knowledge to operate: switch it on, turn up the volume and it works.
The typical mistake is the opposite of what people expect: they ask for more equipment than a forty-person event needs and then end up short of microphones, which is what they really needed. At a speech-based event, the speaker matters less than the microphone and where everything is placed.
When a basic kit falls short
- When there is dancing: without a subwoofer the party sounds thin however loud you turn it up.
- When a live band is playing: you need more channels, monitors and backline.
- When the space is large or long and narrow and the speakers need spreading out, or the audience size calls for a line array.
- When there are more than three microphones live at once: then you want a mixing console with more control and, most likely, a sound technician.
Kits by audience size
Six starting points
All of them can be expanded. If your event falls between two, we take the larger one and remove whatever isn't needed.

Kit 01 · up to 40 people
Speech only
One powered speaker on a tripod, one wireless handheld microphone and an input for a phone or laptop. Meetings, training sessions, small press conferences and indoor events.

Kit 02 · up to 80 people
Ceremony and background music
Two speakers, a compact mixer, one wireless handheld microphone and another lavalier or headset mic. Civil ceremonies, First Communion parties and outdoor events without dancing.

Kit 03 · up to 150 people
Celebration with dancing
Two speakers, one subwoofer, a mixer with several inputs and two microphones. Birthdays, First Communion parties with dancing and celebrations in a hall or garden.

Kit 04 · up to 250 people
Event with several speakers
Distributed speaker system, small digital mixer, three or four wireless mics and a lectern with microphone. Award ceremonies, graduations and professional conferences.

Kit 05 · acoustic
Acoustic performance
Lightweight front-of-house PA, two or three microphone channels, a guitar input and one monitor. Singer-songwriters, duos, choirs and small-format flamenco.

Kit 06 · no mains power
Battery-powered and self-contained
Battery-powered column speaker and wireless microphone for squares, parks and roaming events. See portable sound.
What's included
What a basic sound system includes
- Powered speakers on tripods or stands, adjusted to the space.
- Mixing desk, compact analogue or digital, depending on the number of sources.
- Microphones: handheld, lavalier, headset or wireless, with fresh batteries.
- Stage monitor if someone is singing or playing (optional).
- Complete cabling and stands, with adapters for phones and laptops.
- Technical advice before you confirm the order and a walk-through at set-up.
On-site set-up and support
If you prefer, we handle everything: transport, installation, sound check and collection at the end. You can also collect the kit and set it up yourself (these systems are designed for exactly that), in which case we hand it over tested, with the connections labelled and a two-minute explanation that is usually all you need.
Brands
We work with equipment from well-established professional manufacturers such as Yamaha, Shure, Sennheiser, JBL, Soundcraft and Allen & Heath. It's not about the logo: what matters at an event is that the equipment performs the same on a 40-degree day as on a rainy one, and that if a part fails there is a compatible replacement in the warehouse.

We confirm timings and access

We set up and test
Positioning, levels and a test with the microphone in hand. We show you how to turn the volume up and down.
We collect at the end

Frequently asked questions
Questions about basic sound systems
Can I set it up myself with no sound knowledge?
Yes, that's what these kits are for. They are handed over tested and with the connections labelled. All you have to do is switch on in the right order (mixer first, then speakers) and switch off in reverse.
How many microphones come with a basic kit?
Two wireless mics cover almost everything. From three or four upwards it's worth moving up to a mixer with more channels and coordinating frequencies: we explain this under wireless microphones.
Is a basic system enough for a wedding?
For the ceremony and the drinks reception, yes, and it works very well. For the dancing afterwards, no: that needs a subwoofer and a bit more system. We break it down under wedding sound.
What if there's no power socket nearby at the venue?
There are two options: run power with suitably rated extension cables, which we do ourselves, or use a battery-powered system. For street or park events the self-contained option almost always makes more sense.
Can I rent just one speaker and one microphone?
Yes. It's one of our most common requests and you don't need to book anything else. We'll have it ready for you.
